This is the Irish woman who has been charged in Norway over a massive drugs seizure, allegedly claiming she was “only going to stop over in Oslo on her way to Ireland”.
The Irish Mirror can exclusively reveal that 32-year-old Jamie Angela Mahon, of Moneymore in Drogheda, Co Louth, was arrested by Norwegian police at Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport on Thursday, January 9 on suspicion of smuggling 41.7kg worth of cannabis valued at €834,000.
She was arrested on arrival from a flight from Bangkok in Thailand after she was stopped by Customs Officers following an X-ray examination of her suitcases, which showed irregularities. She is alleged to have told authorities that the suitcases were given to her by someone in Thailand and she was unaware of the contents.
Last Friday, April 4, Ms Mahon had a third court hearing where the court granted the prosecution’s request for continued imprisonment in custody up to an additional eight weeks.
In the most recent court document, seen by the Irish Mirror, it stated: “The court believes that the conditions are present to set a longer deadline than four weeks.
“There is no prospect that neither the risk of absconding nor the assessment of proportionality will be in a different position in four weeks.”
The court document also stated that “continued detention is not in conflict with the requirement that the main hearing shall be held within a reasonable time after the arrest.
“The court granted the prosecution’s request for continued detention until her next court appearance on May 30.”
In a previous court document, as revealed by the Irish Mirror, it stated Ms Mahon “is an Irish citizen and has explained she was only going to stop over in Norway on her way to Ireland”.
Earlier, we revealed the drugs were destined for Drogheda, and the seizure dealt a severe blow to two on-the-run brothers, who head the gang who are at war with associates of paralysed mob boss Owen Maguire.
The brothers cannot be named as they are charged with serious offences. Warrants have been issued for their arrests.
Maguire was shot a number of times by slain serial killer Robbie Lawlor in July 2018. That shooting escalated the feud which claimed the lives of four people, including 17-year-old Keane Mulready Woods, who was murdered and dismembered in a house in Rathmullan Park in Drogheda in January 2020.
His body parts were dumped in a housing estate in Coolock and his head, hands and feet were discovered in a burnt-out car in Dublin’s Drumcondra days later.
Slain serial killer Lawlor is suspected of Keane’s murder and dismemberment. Drogheda criminal Paul Crosby, 29, pleaded guilty in December 2022 to facilitating the murder and was jailed for ten years. His co-accused Gerard ‘Rocky’ Cruise, 51, was jailed for seven years for the same offence.
